Indirect Calorimetry now available for established patients

Beginning 8/1/2022, metabolic testing will be available for established patients as part of their long-term weight management plan.

The ReeVue Indirect Calorimeter by KORR Medical Technologies will be used to measure RMR (Resting Metabolic Rate).

“The ReeVee indirect calorimeter determines resting energy expenditure (REE) by measuring oxygen uptake. Resting energy expenditure is the number of calories that a patient will expend (burn) in 24 hours.” (ref: KORR Medical Technologies Inc.)

A strict protocol will be followed since the test requires measurement of oxygen consumption and requires breathing for 10 minutes using a disposable mouthpiece and tube.

  • Filter on KORR machine
  • Disposable mouthpiece and tube for each patient
  • The patient must be vaccinated against Covid-19 (2 vaccines+2 boosters), with no exceptions
  • Temperature less than 100 degrees Fahrenheit on the day of the test
  • No recent Covid-19 exposure
  • No other respiratory or contagious symptoms---test will be rescheduled for fever, cough, sneezing, sore throat, body aches, rashes, etc.

The REE measurement helps with making customized calorie recommendations to help patients with weight loss and long-term weight maintenance.

This important REE test is available for established patients only, with no exceptions. Additional office protocols will be shared with patients who are eligible for testing.
